We keep detailed records of the people we meet
on our streetwork and tea and soup runs. Obviously
we see the same people many times so the figures
are the numbers of contacts we have made rather
than the number of individuals. We also see more
people than we speak to as many are asleep.

Although the numbers have risen significantly
since January, it is not clear whether this is a long
term trend or just the normal increase in the number of
people sleeping out in the summer, which slowly declines
later in the year as the weather gets worse.
Headcounts:
Since November 1998, the Community has
carried out twice-yearly headcounts of the numbers sleeping
rough in various London Boroughs. Counts are carried out
in the early hours of the morning by teams of volunteers
who walk each borough street by street, counting only
those already sleeping or about to bed down.
